Oh the weather outside is..

way too warm for January!  Whatever happened to the dc peeps freaking out with the one inch of snow on the ground? I think right now we'd be lucky enough to even get a frost.

post-holiday blues overcome

so i decided this year that i was going to wait until after the holidays to go away for a nice vacation.  problem is, its the first week of january and i still have two weeks until i head off to colorado! which leads me to be in a very grumpy mood this week and a poor outlook for the year 2007.  i just need to remember to hold strong because i will be the smart one when everyone is already bored after coming back from their holiday vacations I will just be leaving on mine! and PLUS bf & i probably saved tons of money by waiting.  so the count is on.  only 8 more working days until our first real romantic escapade.  i can't wait!

New Years Resolutions

As is customary in January, I've come up with a list of resolutions:
1) Write and call people who I've been meaning to get in touch with, but keep putting it off
2) Compete in a triathalon
3) Work for a different company
3a) Make more money
3b) Save more money
4) Convince the city to install a street light
5) Take the next step with BF
6) Write regularly in this blog
7) Maintain a total celiac diet

warm weather is no good for snowboarders

i've been waiting.. and waiting for the moment that i can enthusiastically bring out my snowboard and head out to the local slopes.  But with all this warm weather, Liberty & Whitetail have been closing during the week.  This makes me disinclined (is that a word) to head out there on the weekends, because i know for a fact that there will be dirt and sludge mixed with melted fake snow.  Not good.  Especially with this long holiday weekend approaching (I took friday off in anticipation of hitting the slopes!) . I will keep my fingers crossed in hopes that this weekend I'll get some practice runs in before the big trip out West!

discovering an improved quality of life

So i've become one of those people who, when they turn on the tv, automatically check to see whats on one of the many home improvement channels, especially HGTV and Style network. I will happily sit and watch those Whose Wedding Is It Anyways? marathons. It's funny, when you enter the real world, the Real World is less entertaining.

Craving wedding plannings, how to update the bathroom, hanging curtains - is this the definition of getting older? I'm actually considering moving to Seattle because according to My House Is Worth What? you can buy a fabulous house for the same price you would pay for a one bedroom in Arlington.

I have to wonder if all this is a result of the wedding bells i keep hearing in my head. I think when you are ready for the next step, you become consumed by everything involved in that next step. I don't know if it is healthy, but sometimes you just can't help it.

booing at the game

So as I was watched the NFL Season Opener on NBC last night, Pittsburgh vs. Miami in Pittsburgh, they announced that in honor of all the troops serving overseas Martina McBride was going to sing the National Anthem.  What happened next? The stadium was overwhelmed with booing.  I was in total shock!!  Ok not to get into my politics or anything, but honestly that was AWFUL.  How on earth can you boo the men and women who are fighting in wars!  You might not agree that there should be a war, but there is NO EXCUSE to boo the people serving in it.  NO EXCUSE.  You don't know their circumstances! Many of them may not have had any choice in the matter! The army puts kids through college so they can get higher-learning, they didn't expect to have to fight in a war that is being called the next Vietnam War.  It was so disrespectful and those thousands of people who booed that night should be ashamed of themselves.  As a civilian not serving in any military capacity, i know i was embarressed.

sweating it out

so i have to say i miss those days in college when you woke up and didn't feel like wearing real clothes and could just throw on an  oversized Insert College Name HERE sweatshirt and head over to class - rainy days, shmainy days.  unfortunately in the working world, wearing a hoodie to work is not really accepted - much to my dismay.  that is why i am excited that this whole '80s style of oversized shirts and spandex is coming back because i was able to find a nice oversized yet fitted sweatshirt at old navy that i believe I can pull off as work appropriate.  I guess it does help when you can wear jeans and sneaks to the office too, but for some reason it is easier for the boys to pull that off than us girls.  they expect us to look cute every day, but how can you look cute when you are running around outside or across the city in heels and your feet are in so much pain? therefore my new goal is finding fashion forward/cute outfits that are also practical for a job that keeps you on the go.  i think a regular old sweatshirt would not be accepted, but a unique, slightly form fitting sweatshirt can definately do the job, and i can wear my comfortable shoes too!
